Berkeley, California; June 10, 2023; Outsound Presents announces its lineup for the 2023 Annual Outsound New Music Summit taking place from July 28-31, at the Berkeley Finnish Hall located at 1970 Chestnut Street in Berkeley California. Advance tickets now on sale at Eventbrite. The New Music Summit is co-presented by Bay Area radio station KFJC 89.7FM located on the campus of Foothill Junior College in Los Altos Hills.

The twentieth version of the Outsound New Music Summit will take place over four nights July 28 - 31, 2023, at the iconic Berkeley Finnish Hall. The  Summit will open with composer, author, and filmmaker  Jack Curtis Dubowsky’s Ensemble featuring dancer Isadora Kolmorgan.  The Ensemble will debut a new piece that takes the audience on the adventure of a lifetime: a millionaire’s space tourism adventure aka "Space tourism show" followed by Cracking the Surface which fuses Skatch from David Mihalak, hyper piano with Scott R. Looney and live electronics from Thomas Dimuzio morphing, reversing and re-imagining music from electro-acoustic and noise to classical, dark ambient, drone and beyond.

The second night will present three unique approaches to the voice featuring Best of the Bay Editors’ Pick Eki Shola whose music transcends genre, as she seamlessly draws from jazz, electronica, and soul music to create a sonic landscape all her own; San Francisco experimental ambient vocalist, educator and art administrator Lily Taylor who now resides in Texas. Her much anticipated album, Amphora is expected to release in 2023. Taylor continues to teach private voice lessons and hosts a radio show on 92.9FM KUZU LP Denton, Texas. Closing out the second evening will be the powerhouse duo of Las Sucias. Featuring Danishta Rivero and Alexandra Buschman-Román, they  mix anti-patriarchal riotgrrrl lyrics, afro- caribbean rhythms, brujería noise and possessed vocals creating a ritual that combines all of the senses and elevates into a higher realm.

The third evening will present a wide range of sonic exploration opening with the synths, objects and winds of Kim Nucci and Mitch Stahlmann followed electronic psychedelic film invention music by dwellers of the high California desert Phogmasheen and closing with Los Angeles based Present Quartet featuring Ellen Burr (flutes), Anne LeBaron (harp), Jeff Schwartz (bass), and Charles Sharp (reeds).

Closing the festival Rent Romus will present his Midwestern freejazz quartet Actual/Actual showcasing their brand of improvised music with a blues music orientation,  spontaneous composition and elements of improbable connections. Romus originally hails from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and has made it a point to engage and collaborate with musicians from the region. This band represents recent “talent reconnaissance” and is truly a multi-generational affair. Closing the entire Summit will be a special gathering of Bay Area creative luminaries with guitarist Myles Boisen’s Ornettology. Joining Myles in this high energy septet will feature  Jordan Glenn on drums, Lisa Mezzacappa on double bass, John Shiurba on guitar, Steve Adams on alto saxophone,  Sheldon Brown on tenor saxophone, and Chris Grady on trumpet. The group utilizes the late Ornette Coleman's compositions as a springboard for re-interpretation, group improvisation, and free jazz exploration, always keeping a focus on his  distinctive melodies.
